Research interests
My research focuses on understanding why cardiovascular complications arise from diabetes. In particular, we study which proteins are critical in diabetic cardiomyopathy development and aim to deliver these via adeno associated viruses to the heart. Our focus is on calcium handling proteins including the RyR2, SPEG, L-type Ca Channel and SERCA and their role in disease progression. We also collaborate with other investigators to explore implications of calcium mishandling from the pancreas in relation to effects on the heart.
