Yue Huang

I obtained MBBS degree from Harbin Medical University, China in 1991, trained as a neurologist, and practiced in clinics for nine years. I started my medical research career in 2003, when I completed my PhD in genetic and proteomic studies on neurological conditions. Following my PhD, I had postdoctoral training on neuropathology at Neuroscience Research Australia in Sydney, Australia. I became a conjunct Lecturer and Senior Research Officer in January 2008, a conjoint senior lecturer and associate professor of the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 2012 and 2016. I took the position of Director, Human Brain & Tissue Bank at China National Clinical Research Centre for Neurological Diseases, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, China in Dec. 2017. I set up longitudinal observation cohorts for various neurological disorders, particularly in monogenetic form. I spend 30% of my time on outpatient and research clinics, 30% on pathological classification of incoming brain tissues, 30% on medical research and 10% on teaching. I have over 100 peer reviewed publications with H index 32 in my career and over 30 publications in the past five years. I have built up resources to support high impact research published in Cell, Neuron and Science Advance (2023). My expertise is in research related to neurogenetic disorders, such as Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, etc, via clinical and pathological approaches. My research area mainly relates to 1) Study of gut-brain axis in neurodegenerative diseases; 2) Genetic & pathological diagnosis and clinical management of rare brain diseases; 3) Investigating changes in the tissue microenvironment leading to pathological inclusion body formation; and 4) Promoting brain health and neuroprotection against neurodegeneration.
