Vahid Serpooshan

My research program focuses on developing advanced 3D bioprinting, biomaterials, and stem cell–based platforms to model human development and disease and to engineer next-generation regenerative therapies, with a particular emphasis on cardiovascular and pediatric diseases. By integrating nano-biomaterials, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), mechanobiology, and biofabrication, my lab creates patient-specific, highprecision in vitro tissue models that enable both fundamental discovery and translational innovation. A central goal of my research is to understand how biophysical, biochemical, and cellular microenvironments regulate tissue development, disease progression, and repair. Current projects include 3D bioprinted cardiac and vascular tissues, organ- and disease-on-chip platforms (e.g., congenital heart disease and liver disease models), imaging-visible and smart biomaterials, and cell-based regenerative therapies. These systems are used to study human development, inflammation, fibrosis, ferroptosis, and therapeutic responses in ways not possible with conventional models.
