Sharon Crozier-De Rosa

I am a Professor in History in the School of Humanities and Social Inquiry at the University of Wollongong, Australia, and an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersections of feminist history, emotions, memory studies, and imperialism and anti-colonialism. My major innovations to date have been (1) to turn away from the conceptual standpoint that women have been historically forgotten and instead open up space for new dialogue on women's agency collecting, collating and preserving the histories of their activisms and (2) to insist on the importance of the emotional codes which govern men's and women's life experiences in exploring questions about people's claims to and performances of citizenship. I am currently working on three intersecting research projects:(a) I lead 'Archiving Social Movements & Building Historical Literacy for a Digital Age' (ARC DP230100875, 2023-26); (b) '"We called it Justice for Women": Jean Arnot and feminism between the waves' (State Library of New South Wales Visiting Scholar, 2023); and, (c) 'Memory-Keepers: Women Activists' Strategies to Document their History and Preserve their Own Memory' (National Library of Australia Research Fellowship, 2020-22). I am co-editing The Oxford Handbook in the History of Emotions (with Katie Barclay, 2027). My recent books include Remembering Women's Activism (co-authored Prof. Vera Mackie 2019), Shame and the Anti-Feminist Backlash: Britain, Ireland and Australia, 1890-1920 (2018) and Sources for the History of Emotions (co-edited with Katie Barclay and Peter N. Stearns 2020). I am the Deputy Editor of the international journal, Women's History Review, Board Member of the International Federation for Research in Women's History (IFRWH), and Editorial Board of the Australian Women's History Network (AWHN) journal, Lilith: A Feminist History Journal. Before taking up a position at UOW in 2012, I was an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Alfred Deakin Research Institute, Deakin University. Prior to that, I assumed the position of Historical Consultant for a child sexual abuse Commission of Inquiry and contributed to the final report, History of Children in State Care, 1860-2004 (Government Publishing SA, Adelaide, 2008).
