Research interests
Originally from New Zealand I completed a PhD at the University of Queensland, during which I traced the transport of mineral dust from its source areas, namely the playa lakes and dry channels of arid central Australia, to its resting place in the ice fields and mountains of New Zealand. I am fascinated by dust transport, particularly by the way it links otherwise spatially disparate regions and feeds-back through a myriad of Earth system processes, including geochemical, biological, oceanic, geomorphic and atmospheric systems. Consequently, my work crosses the disciplines of geomorphology, Quaternary change, geochemistry and biogeochemistry. In particular, I am interested exploring the processes that drive in changes in dust emissions (i.e., arid-land processes), the role of dust in ecosystem fertilisation and the role of human processes in enhancing dust emissions in addition to altering dust chemistry.
