Renee Middlemost

Renée Middlemost is a Senior Lecturer in Communication and Media, and Deputy Head of School (Education) in the School of Creative Arts and Humanities. Her research focuses on celebrity, fan participation, cult cinema, gender, and popular culture. She is the author of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in the Queer Film Classics series (2026, McGill-Queens University Press), and the co-editor of collections Fame and Fandom: Functioning On and Offline (2022, University of Iowa Press); and the three volume series, Gender and Action Film (2022, Emerald Publishing). Her work has been featured in The Routledge Companion to Cult Cinema; Crank It Up: Jason Statham - Star!; Aussie Fans: Uniquely Placed in Global Popular Culture; Gender and Australian Celebrity Culture; and The Media and Communications in Australia. She has published in journals including Celebrity Studies, American Behavioural Scientist, M/C Journal, and the Australasian Journal of Popular Culture. Renée is a Visiting Research Fellow at Leeds Beckett University, and a founding member of the Fan Studies Network Australasia.
