Research interests
Peter Wipf is the Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He also serves as Director of the Combinatorial Chemistry Center (CCC) and the Center for Chemical Methodologies and Library Development (UPCMLD). His group is involved in many collaborative projects in Chemical Biology, including the Center for Protein Conformational Diseases, the Center for Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation (CMCR) and the University of Pittsburgh Center for Chemical Diversity (UPCDC). He has served on the organizing committee of several conferences and workshops, including the NSF/Organic Syntheses Workshop on Organic Synthesis. He is a member of several editorial boards, including Medicinal Chemistry Letters (ACS MCL), Organic Syntheses, and Organic Reactions (OR).
Prof. Wipf received a Ph.D. in 1987 from the University of Zürich under the guidance of Prof. Heinz Heimgartner. After 2 years as a Swiss NSF postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Robert E. Ireland at the University of Virginia, he joined the University of Pittsburgh, and was promoted to Distinguished Professor in 2004. Prof. Wipf received the NSF Presidential Faculty Fellowship in 1994, the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award in 1998, the Ernest Guenther Award in the Chemistry of Natural Products in 2009, and the Humboldt Research Award in 2014. He is a Fellow of the AAAS (2002), the RSC (2004), and the ACS (2010). He also serves as an associate editor for ACS Med. Chem. Lett.
