Research interests

How can we use machine learning to discover new biology and suggest novel therapeutic approaches? In our wet lab, we generate massive biological datasets containing millions of measurements, which we later use in the dry lab to train interpretable machine learning models. This approach yields trustworthy models that provide insights into biological processes and suggest potential therapeutic designs. This is in contrast to typical 'black box' machine learning models which do not help advance our understanding of biology. By designing our models with interpretability in mind, we are able to 'observe' molecular processes such as RNA processing or translation at the level of individual protein-nucleic acid interactions, resulting in novel models. My other work is in mathematics, cryptography, and quantum computation. My main contribution there is to lattice-based cryptography, and specifically the Learning With Errors problem, forming the basis of post-quantum cryptography.
