Michael Stevens

I am an advanced manufacturing researcher specializing in digital manufacturing for SMEs. My work focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance efficiency, innovation, and accessibility for small and medium enterprises. Since moving to UNSW Canberra in 2024 as a Senior Lecturer, I have been deeply engaged in industry collaborations, research-driven solutions, and knowledge transfer initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between emerging manufacturing techniques and practical implementation. Previously, my research revolved around artificial hearts and aged care technology, where I consulted with multiple industry partners to improve medical devices through simulations and bench-top testing. Dr Stevens received his undergraduate degree in Medical Engineering from Queensland University of Technology in 2010, graduating with first class honours. He then completed his PhD in 2014 at the University of Queensland, in which he developed a physiological control system for dual rotary left ventricular assist devices operating as a biventricular assist device. He commenced a postdoctoral position as a Research Associate at the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering in August 2015. He then became a lecturer in January 2018 and a Senior Lecturer in 2022.
