Research interests

Michael Schmidt is an Associate Professor at the School of Physics at the University of New South Wales Sydney. Michael obtained his Physik Diplom and PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics at the Technische Universität München in Germany. He was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology at the University of Durham and the University of Melbourne, and a Lecturer at the University of Sydney. He has worked at UNSW Sydney since 2018. He is renowned for his research on quantum corrections to neutrino masses, the correct definition of a (generalized) CP symmetry in presence of a discrete flavour symmetry, and neutrino mass model building. Michael made several important contributions to charged lepton flavour physics and the physics of semi-leptonic and rare B meson decays. He is generally interested in new physics beyond the Standard Model and astroparticle physics. I am a theoretical particle physicist working in the area of New Physics beyond the Standard Model. My research is focused on neutrino and flavour physics, but I am also working on other areas of new physics beyond the Standard Model including dark matter, phase transitions in the early universe, collider physics and supersymmetry phenomenology.
