Research interests
Dr Melissa Stydom is a Lecturer in the Law School at the University of Western Australia, where she teaches Land Law and Environmental Law. Before joining the Law School, Dr Strydom worked as a lawyer with more than 15 years of legal sector experience, practising in Public and Regulatory Law, including Environmental, Natural Resources, Energy, and related areas, with wider experience as a prosecutor, in-house counsel, and a legal consultant. Dr Strydom is admitted as a legal practitioner in South Africa and Western Australia. She has also been appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, has periodically guest lectured, and has been appointed as a Sessional Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand. Dr Strydom's research interests encompass a range of aspects related to natural resources and environmental law. Her experience and interest in compliance and enforcement led to PhD research considering criminal sanctions for environmental law transgressions.
