Maureen Rischmueller

Maureen Rischmueller is a consultant rheumatologist at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH, South Australia), visiting medical officer at Alice Springs and Royal Darwin Hospitals (Northern Territory), and Clinical Professor, Adelaide University. She has a long-standing clinical and research interest in autoimmune rheumatic diseases, with a particular focus on Sjögren disease, in which she pioneered research into genetic risk factors, systemic manifestations, and novel autoantibody associations. She has co-authored >150 publications and 4 book chapters and was twice-winner of the Sjögren Foundation (USA) Ethel Baxter Award for Excellence in Research. Her current research focuses on pathogenesis, impacts, outcomes, and treatments for Sjögren disease. Director of a statewide Sjögren's clinic at TQEH with embedded teaching and research, including investigator-led collaborative studies and pharma-sponsored clinical trials. Founder and Custodian of the South Australian Sjögren disease registry and biobank, Chair of Australian Rheumatology Association Sjögren Special Interest Group (SIG), Chair of Sjögren's Outcomes, Longitudinal Assessment & Research in Australia (SOLAR), Co-chair of Outcome Measures in Rheumatology (OMERACT) Sjögren's Working Group, Medical lead, Sjögren’s Australia Medical Advisory Panel, Founding Member of Asia-Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) Sjögren SIG, Sjögren Genetics Consortium, and European League of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) Sjögren Taskforce Big Data Consortium; and Member of the Scientific Committee for the Biennial International Symposium on Sjögren disease, Steering Committee of the Australian Lupus Registry and Biobank, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander SLE Resarch Program.
