Research interests
Prof Morris’s research interests are focused on the development of organic molecules to be used in biomedical research. In particular, he is interested in the use of natural products as biomedical agents. Natural products deliver novel leads for pharmaceuticals in a diverse array of therapeutic areas and offer an excellent starting point for medicinal chemistry programs. One of the bottlenecks in the development of natural products is the availability of the compound. Prof Morris’s research programme is focused on developing strategies to prepare these valuable materials and generate analogs that have improved potency and selectivity. He has a major interest in the development of small molecules for the modulation of the alternative splicing of RNA, which has significant therapeutic potential in the treatment of aged macular degeneration, pain and cancer.
