Professor John Rossiter AM, now an Honorary Professorial Fellow, is the leading researcher in the Faculty of Arts, Society and Business at the University of Wollongong. Professor Rossiter has been instrumental in gaining for the University of Wollongong's School of Business four ARC Large Research Grants and six ARC Linkage Research Grants. He is the author or co-author of 10 research-based books and more than 120 journal articles and is known internationally for three main contributions: the Rossiter-Percy Model of advertising effectiveness (1987, 1997, 2005, 2018); the C-OAR-SE measurement method for business and social sciences (2002, 2007, 2011); and most recently Creative Ability Testing (2022, 2026 forthcoming). In the past several years, he has also contributed to the field of clinical psychology with publications on his Core Symptom Method of psychiatric measurement.
Professor Rossiter taught undergraduate and postgraduate Marketing in the Faculty of Business from 1999 to 2004, becoming a full-time Research Professor in 2005 and an Honorary Professor in 2015 to the present. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy, and the Australian Social & Market Research Society (now The Research Society). In 2015, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of his work in marketing and consumer behavior.
Rossiter throughout his career has been an active market research consultant in the U.S.A., England, and Australia, with projects conducted for, among many others, Unilever, American Express, Nestlé, the Australian Tourist Commission, and the Australian office of the Ogilvy & Mather global advertising agency.
