Research interests
My research in fluid mechanics helps us to understand and interact responsibly with natural and built environments. I am currently developing stochastic models to describe the random fluctuations, uncertainties, mixing processes, transitions and extreme events associated with turbulence. In particular, I work on transport and mixing in buoyancy-driven flows, stratified turbulence, the natural ventilation of buildings, internally-heated convection, turbulent free-shear flows, entrainment, pollution dispersion and particle transport. To investigate these areas I make use of direct numerical simulation, stochastic differential equations, data assimilation, network models, Fokker-Planck equations and dynamical systems.
