Joanna Stirling

Jo Stirling is Visual Communication Designer, researcher and lecturer in the Creative Industries and Contemporary Arts at the School of the Arts, English and Media. Jo’s design experience spans the commercial, academic and educational aspects of Visual Communication Design. Her practice, teaching and research focuses on design for social impact, advocacy, health and design for environmental benefit and communication. Jo's practice is often cross-disciplinary and collaborative with a particular interest in the ways that expanding practices of design can visualise data and experiment with visual methods that can advocate and communicate about the environment. Jo works in many design forms such as exhibition design, exhibition curation, publication design, augmented reality, time-based media, illustration, branding and book design. Jo works to find new ways to visually share stories that encourage participation and engagement about place and community. Prior to joining UOW in 2009, Jo worked as a designer across the publishing, music, exhibition design and eco-tourism sector in the UK and Australia and established Morf Design in Australia from 2000-2010.
