Jill Colton

I am a senior lecturer in English and literacy education at Adelaide University, specialising in children's literature and digital media. My teaching expertise includes pedagogies for teaching reading, writing and text production, especially with digital tools and technologies. Recent research includes investigating pedagogies for reading and writing in primary schools, multimodal storytelling with diverse communities, engaging pre-service teachers with literature, and making meaning with cognitively challenging picture books. My work explores processes of transmediation through the lens of semiotic theory and reader response. I am interested in the possibilities and challenges of artificial intelligence in the production of texts and for other textual practices such as reading. My work in pedagogies extends into sites where social justice is practised through educational change.
