Research interests
Professor Lam’s research leverages electrocatalysis to address pressing global challenges such as climate change and environmental pollution. The group focuses on transforming renewable feedstocks and waste materials into valuable chemicals and fuels through sustainable electrocatalytic processes. By advancing mechanistic insights and fundamental understanding, the team strives to optimize reaction yield, selectivity, and efficiency. Research efforts are centered on three key areas:
1. Electrocatalytic Upgrading of Biomass-Derived Substrates: Developing selective processes to convert biomass into high-value chemical products.
2. Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (E-AOPs): Designing innovative solutions for the treatment of pollutants in wastewater.
3. Electrochemical Metal Recovery from E-Waste: Creating sustainable methods to recover valuable metals from electronic waste.
Beyond the lab, Professor Lam is passionate about engaging younger generations, primary school and secondary (high) school students, and industry partners through workshops that promote the importance of waste upcycling and sustainability.
