Ingo Loa

My research concerns the effect of very high pressure in the kilo- to megabar range on the physical properties of solids.My work has covered a wide range of materials from elemental metals and intermetallic compounds, via bulk and nano-structured semiconductors, to transition metal oxides with strong electron correlations. I have studied crystal structures, electronic and lattice-dynamical properties of solids at high pressure using a variety of techniques, including synchrotron-based x-ray diffraction and inelastic x-ray scattering, optical spectroscopy (Raman and synchrotron-infrared) as well as first-principles electronic structure calculations.My current research interests include thermoelectric materials and the use of diffuse x-ray scattering from phonons for the determination of phonon dispersion relations.
