Andrew Warren

As a researcher and teacher, I explore the geographical dimensions of economic and social change. My work examines how economic restructuring unfolds across different places and scales, and how broader processes—including technological change, industry transformation, state policy, and capital mobility—shape the experiences of businesses, workers, and local communities. Grounded in geographical political economy, my research uses in-depth, place-based case studies to understand wider processes of economic and social transformation. I have examined these issues across a range of industries, including steel and automotive, maritime transport, and the creative economy, often drawing on longitudinal, ethnographic, and mixed-methods approaches. I value collaborative research that engages industry, government, unions, and communities to try and better understand contemporary challenges and opportunities. Through my teaching and research supervision, I aim to help students develop the critical, analytical, and interpersonal skills needed to understand and respond to a rapidly changing world.
